Washington, Muharram 6, 1436, Oct 30, 2014, SPA -- The number of people filing initial applications for U.S. unemployment benefits rose for a second consecutive week last week but remained at very low levels consistent with a strengthening labor market, the government reported Thursday.

Five-year delay in removing melted fuel at Japan nuclear plant
Tokyo, Muharram 06, 1436, October 30, 2014, SPA -- The Japanese government and the operator of the
crippled Fukushima nuclear plant said on Thursday they plan to
postpone the start of removing melted fuel from a reactor by five
years, amid delays in the decommissioning process, dpa reported.

The government and Tokyo Electric Power Co had initially planned to
start the removal at reactor 1 of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power
Station in 2020.

They will also remove spent fuel rods from a cooling pool above the
reactor in 2019 - a delay of two years.

The delays are not expected to affect the whole process of
decommissioning the plant, the Kyodo news agency reported.

It is projected to take up to 40 years to complete the process.

The plant suffered meltdowns at three of its six reactors after it
was hit by an earthquake and tsunami in March 2011.

About 130,000 residents have not been able to return to homes near

KIEV, Muharram 06, 1436, October 30, 2014, SPA -- Seven Ukrainian soldiers have been killed in the past 24 hours in the east of the country despite a ceasefire with separatists, a military spokesman said on Thursday, Reuters reported.

The deaths further strained a tenuous ceasefire, which came into force on Sept. 5, while tension is growing in the run-up to a local election on Sunday organised by the separatists and which has been denounced as illegal by the Kiev government.

KIEV, Muharram 06, 1436, October 30, 2014, SPA -- Prime Minister Arseny Yatseniuk said on Thursday that Ukraine's position at three-way talks in Brussels was that the price of Russian natural gas should be $378 per 1,000 cubic metres by the end of 2014 and fall to $365 in the first quarter of 2015, Reuters reported.

Yatseniuk told a government meeting that Kiev was ready to pay off debts for previously supplied gas immediately after any deal was signed.
