Ukraine asks Russia for lower gas prices for winter season
MOSCOW, Dhu-AlQa'dah 13, 1436, Aug 28, 2015, SPA -- Emboldened by a deal with international creditors to write down part of its debt, Ukraine on Friday asked Russia for lower gas prices for the winter season, Ap reported.
Gas disputes between Russia and Ukraine have led to cut-offs of supply in the past, and one standoff in 2009 caused serious disruptions in gas flowing from Russia via Ukraine to the European Union.
Russia and Ukraine last year struck an emergency deal on prices through the winter. That deal has expired, however, and the sides have to hold new talks if Ukraine is to receive more Russian gas.
Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said on Friday he is convinced that Kiev and Moscow should go back to the last winter deal, which saw Ukraine pre-pay for gas but receive a sizeable discount.

The boat sank on Thursday after leaving Zuwara, a major launch pad for smugglers shipping migrants from sub-Saharan Africa or Syria to Italy.

Al-Abadi also ordered security officials to open up streets in the

political parties.

Greek economic growth in second quarter revised up
ATHENS, Dhu-AlQa'dah 13, 1436, August 28, 2015, SPA -- Greece's statistics agency said the country's economy grew slightly faster than earlier forecast in the second quarter of the year, AP reported.
The statistics agency said Friday the economy grew 0.9 percent compared to the first three months of the year, faster than 0.8 percent the previously estimated.
It said that, according to seasonally adjusted data, the economy grew by 1.6 percent compared with the same quarter last year. That is slightly higher than the initial estimate of 1.4 percent.
The revision was due to new data not available earlier.
The growth figures are good news for financially troubled Greece, which recently reached a deal on its third international bailout and is heading to early elections next month.

Ebola survivor who lost 21 relatives gives birth to baby boy
KENEMA, Sierra Leone, Dhu-AlQa'dah 13, 1436, Aug 28, 2015, SPA -- Ebola did not take Victoria Yillia's life and it could not prevent the birth of her son, AP reported.
And yet it loomed, even on this, her happiest day.
She delivered her child just a few minutes' walk from the ward where just last year she had hovered between life and death, and nurses and medical staff still wore full protective suits and masks for fear of any lingering infection. Doctors gave her formula and told her not to nurse her baby until they ran tests to be sure there were no traces of the virus in her breast milk.
Her husband Anthony beamed in the maternity ward as they talked about names for the boy nestled in a blanket with a yellow knit cap. But Victoria burst into tears: Her mother was not here to help her, to show her what to do with her first child. Nor was her grandmother, or her three older sisters.
The couple and their new baby are all that remain: Twenty-one members of her family died of Ebola when the virus ripped through this corner of Sierra Leone.

Swiss economy sees slight growth in second quarter, avoids recession
Frankfurt, Dhu-AlQa'dah 13, 1436, Aug 28, 2015, SPA -- The Swiss economy escaped recession by registering
surprise second-quarter growth of 0.2 per cent despite the surge in
the value of the franc at the beginning of the year, dpa cited official figures
as showing Friday.

The 0.2-per-cent growth from April to June reported by the State
Secretariat for Economic Affairs contrasts with a fall in gross
domestic product (GDP) of 0.2 per cent in the first quarter, which
had raised fears the Swiss economy was headed for a recession.

A recession occurs when a country's GDP falls for two consecutive

The GDP results were better than the 0.1-per-cent drop in GDP that
economists had predicted.

Growth was underpinned by private household and government spending.

The franc rose as much as 20 per cent after the Swiss Central Bank
removed the peg to the euro on January 15.
