German retail sales rebound in October on solid job market
Berlin, Safar 6, 1436, Nov 28, 2014, SPA -- German retail sales rebounded in October, rising at their fastest pace in about three years thanks to a solid labour market and higher wages, data released Friday showed.
According to dpa, retail sales in Europe's biggest economy jumped by a more-than-forecast 1.9 per cent in October from September, when they slumped by 2.6 per cent, the Federal Statistics Office (Destatis) said.
The strong pickup underlines the key role that private consumption is playing in driving German economic growth.
Analysts surveyed by dpa-AFX had forecast a 1.5-per-cent rise.
October retail sales were 1.7-per-cent higher than in the same month last year.

French parliament debates recognition of Palestinian state
Paris, Safar 6, 1436, Nov 28, 2014, SPA -- The French National Assembly is on Friday debating a draft resolution on whether to recognize a Palestinian state alongside Israel.
According to dpa, lawmakers who signed the resolution said they "call on the French government to recognize the state of Palestine in order to reach a definitive resolution to the conflict."
Hopes are low that Israel and the Palestinians can reach a peace deal. US-backed peace talks failed to make any progress and tensions rose after a summer war in the Gaza Strip and violence in Jerusalem over access to a shared holy site.

Eurozone inflation slows to near zero in November
Berlin, Safar 6, 1436, Nov 28, 2014, SPA -- Annual inflation in the eurozone edged down closer to zero in November, increasing pressure on the European Central Bank to boost the struggling economy and head off the threat of deflation.
According to dpa, consumer prices slowed to 0.3 per cent this month from 0.4 per cent in October as falling oil prices and weak demand in the eurozone undercut inflationary pressures.
The decline was in line with analyst forecasts.
The drop in November pushed prices further away from the ECB's target of an annual inflation rate just below 2 per cent.

October unemployment in the eurozone unchanged at 11.5 per cent
Berlin, Safar 6, 1436, Nov 28, 2014, SPA -- Unemployment in the 18-member eurozone held steady at 11.5 per cent for the third month in a row in October as the region's weak growth rate failed to boost hiring, data released Friday showed.
According to dpa, the number of those out of work in the currency bloc stood at 18.395 million in October after another 60,000 people lost their jobs during the month, the European Union Statistics Office Eurostat said.
Greece and Spain once again had the highest unemployment rates in Europe despite a pickup in economic growth in both nations led to a slight fall in jobless queues.
Unemployment in Spain stood at 24 per cent in October (down from 24.1 per cent in September) and 25.9 per cent in Greece in August, the latest available figures. Greece's jobless rate came in at 26.1 per cent in July.
The lowest jobless rates were in Germany (4.9 per cent) and Austria (5.1 per cent), the data showed.
Youth unemployment in the eurozone also fell again in October to 23.5 per cent after 141,000 people under the age of 25 found work. The youth unemployment rate stood at 24 per cent in the same month last year.

UK's Cameron to curb benefits for immigrants
LONDON, Safar 6, 1436, Nov 28, 2014, SPA -- UK Prime Minister David Cameron says migrants from Europe will have to leave Britain if they don't get a job within six months, and must work for four years before receiving some benefits' moves he hopes will defuse criticism over his immigration policies.
According to AP, immigration has become an increasingly bitter issue in Britain. The right-wing U.K. Independence Party has been gaining support with calls to curb migration and leave the EU, which allows citizens of its 28 countries to live and work across the bloc.
Cameron has promised to wrest more control from the EU.
He said Friday that freedom of movement within Europe is not "an unqualified right."
"If an EU jobseeker has not found work within six months, they will be required to leave," he said.

Malaysia Airlines losses deepen in third quarter
Kuala Lumpur, Safar 6, 1436, Nov 28, 2014, SPA -- Malaysia Airlines (MAS) posted a loss of 576.1 million ringgit (169.46 million dollars) in the third quarter, dragged down by the impact of the twin tragedies that hit the national carrier earlier this year, the airline said Friday.
According to dpa, the July to September loss was higher than the 375.4-million-ringgit loss it suffered in the same period last year.
"The double impact of MH370 and MH17 incidents and the continued intensified competition resulted in lower seat factor (proportion of
available seats being filled) by 11.5 percentage points to 73 per cent," it said in the report.
"Despite a 2-per-cent capacity increase, the group's operating revenue decreased by 12 per cent to 3.325 million ringgit as compared to the same quarter last year," it added.
