Riyadh, Muharram 3, 1433, Nov 28, 2011, SPA -- The Minister of Health and Chairman of the Executive Bureau of the Council of Arab Ministers of Health, Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Rabiah opened here today the Saudi Forum on Uniting Arab Countries to Combat AIDS.
Dr. Al-Rabiah delivered a speech in which he highlighted the efforts exerted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to combat AIDS, pointing out that Saudi Arabia has been supporting regional and international efforts to prevent the prevalence of infection in Arab communities.
The Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Preventive Medicine, Dr. Ziyad bin Ahmed Mimish said 'In 2010, the number of new Saudi patients with AIDS reached 1121, a reduction by 9% over the previous year. Since 1984 until 2010, the number of discovered AIDS cases reached 16,334 (4458 Saudis and 11876 non-Saudis).'
The forum will discuss the latest scientific knowledge related to the nature of the disease, methods of treatment, a number of cases that have been discovered during the last period, and the ways to prevent the prevalence of infection in the community, in addition to supporting AIDS patients and providing ways to engage them in the society and to preserve their rights soundly, by ensuring for them proper income, healthcare, curative services, follow-up, as well as psychological and social support.
