New York, Jumada I 20, 1438, Feb 17, 2017, SPA -- U.S. stocks closed mostly lower Thursday, while energy dropped 1 percent.
In U.S. economic news, weekly jobless claims held around their lowest levels in more than 40 years.
The dollar fell 0.7 percent against a basket of currencies. Light sweet crude oil for March delivery added 31 cents to $53.42 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, while gold futures gained $7.40 to $1,240.50.
The Dow Jones industrial average increased 8.18, or 0.04 percent, to 20,620.04. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index dropped 2.03, or 0.09 percent, to 2,347.22. The technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index lost 4.54, or 0.08 percent, to 5,814.90.
