Ramallah, Safar 29, 1439, Nov 18, 2017, SPA -- Palestinian president office expressed deep surprise at the recent American action regarding the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) office, in Washington, DC, since recently held meetings between Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and US President Donald Trump were characterized by a full understanding of steps to create an atmosphere conducive to resuming of peace process.
"The Palestinian side has not received any ideas, despite the passage of months and multiple meetings with the American side, leaving US administration to act as a mediator, while the latest step means withdrawal from its duties as a sponsor of the political process, which President of the United States pledged to work to reach it," the official spokesman for the Palestinian presidency Nabil Abu Rudeina said.
He stressed that this action, which aims to close the office of the PLO, represents an unprecedented step in the history of American-Palestinian relations, which would have serious consequences for the peace process and American-Arab relations, as the step is a blow to American efforts to bring peace about and constitute a reward for Israel, which obstructs US endeavors, in this regard, through persistence with adopting settlement policy and refusal to accept the principle of a two-state solution.
