Canberra, May 25, 2020, SPA -- A massive storm has wreaked havoc on the coastal areas of Western Australia, including the state capital Perth, dpa reported.
The Australian State Emergency Services (SES) said it has responded to hundreds of calls for help overnight and Monday morning.
The strongest wind gust of 126 kilometers per hour was recorded at Cape Leeuwin in the state's south-west, the Bureau of Meteorology said today. The winds raised dust storms in some areas, according to the Bureau.
Roofs were ripped off and trees felled as the dangerous wind swept through the state's northern coastal regions, and some 50,000 homes were without power overnight, according to local media.
Reports also said heavy rainfall hit parts of the coast, with many areas recording their highest tides of the year.
