Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Welcomes Egypt’s Efforts Aiming to Resolve Libyan Crisis

Riyadh, June 6, 2020, SPA -- The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia welcomes the effort put forth by Egypt that aims to resolve the crisis in Libya, and supports the call made by the President of Egypt for a ceasefire in Libya beginning Monday, June 8, 2020, in accordance with new initiative contained in the Cairo Declaration that was announced today, June 6.
The Kingdom also affirms that it welcomes all international efforts that call for a an immediate stop to the fighting in Libya, and a return to the political track based on the relevant international initiatives and resolutions, including what was agreed upon in the Berlin and Geneva conferences.
And based on the Kingdom's consistent policy of supporting efforts to reduce the intensity of conflicts in the region, and to maintain the territorial integrity of Arab countries as well as to protect them against external interference, while promoting understanding and dialogue between brotherly people over military interventions and prioritizing political solutions, especially considering the futility of military solutions, it urges all Libyan parties, particularly The Government of National Accord and The Libyan National Army to put Libya’s national interest first by prioritizing an immediate ceasefire, and starting urgent and comprehensive political negotiations under the auspices of the United Nations, in a manner that guarantees the return of peace and stability to Libya, while maintaining its territorial integrity, its security and protecting it against outside interference.
