Jeddah, June 14, 2021, SPA -- The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is celebrating this year's World Blood Donor Day with a number of initiatives and efforts to promote blood donation and its contributions to enhancing community solidarity and social cohesion.
Celebrated on June 14 each year, the World Blood Donor Day aims to raise global awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products for transfusion and the immense contribution voluntary and unpaid blood donors make to national health systems
Healthcare sectors and other concerned agencies are playing their part in encouraging individuals to embrace the humanitarian call to donate blood and inspire others to do the same and there are four ways to donate blood: plasma, platelets, red cells, and whole blood.
The "Wateen" mobile application, launched in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, is one of the initiatives aiming at raising awareness about the importance of voluntary blood donation and ensuring adequate supplies to blood banks across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The initiative also seeks to ease blood donation procedures through Wateen application to meet the needs of blood banks across Saudi Arabia, to launch regular donation campaigns and to improve donor experience.
