Saudi Arabia Concludes Participation in 41st Session of UNESCO General Conference

Paris, Dec 3, 2021, SPA -- Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has concluded its participation in the 41st session of the General Conference of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization "UNESCO", which was held in the French capital, Paris, from November 9 to 24.
The Kingdom’s delegation to the Conference was headed by Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan, Minister of Culture who is also the Chairman of the National Committee for Education, Culture and Science.
The delegation included Vice Chairman of the Committee, Dr. Hamad bin Muhammad Al Al-Sheikh, in addition to 12 experts from the Ministries of Culture and Education, and Saudi Data and Al Authority (SDAIA), King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology and Human Rights Commission.
Princess Haifa bint Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al Meqrin, the permanent representative of the Kingdom to UNESCO, said that the session included various events, including the celebration of UNESCO’s 75th anniversary and the adoption of the Organization’s 2022-2029 strategy, in addition to the adoption of recommendations for the ethics of artificial intelligence as well as recommendation on Open Science.
Regarding the achievements, Princess Haifa underlined the membership of the International Coordination Council for the Man and the Biosphere Program, the signing of a strategic agreement between the Royal Commission for Al-Ula and UNESCO, and the Kingdom's support for the launch of the World Atlas of Languages, which corresponds to UNESCO’s efforts to promote linguistic diversity.
The Princess added that the agreement signed between the Royal Commission for Al-Ula and UNESCO aims to develop the natural and cultural environment, achieve mutual benefit, and enhance the cultural, social, and economic development that Al-Ula is currently witnessing, in addition to enhancing capacity building and knowledge transfer.
These achievements underscored the Kingdom's important and prominent role in decision-making within the Organization and its promotion of multilateralism to preserve and protect common goals and address global challenges to ensure a better future for nations.
