Saudi Arabia to host 4th session of the Antimicrobial Resistance Conference

Muscat, November 25, 2022, SPA – Saudi Minister of Health Fahad bin Abdulrahman Al-Jalajel chaired today the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's delegation participating in the 3rd Ministerial Conference on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), which is being held in Muscat, Oman, from 24-25 November 2022.
The conference discussed what has been achieved in terms of movement to control the silent epidemic of resistance to antibiotics, the available challenges and opportunities to control the spread and mitigate its negative effects on human and animal health, the economy, growth, and global development, in addition to reviewing successful experiences from participating countries and exchanging experiences and mechanisms used to respond with the "One Health" approach, where the focus was on four important axes managed by global expertise and international participation and from specialized organizations that focus on activating response plans at the country level, monitoring resistance through a single health system that includes humans, animals, and the environment, political mobility and financial resources, research and innovation.
The Minister announced the Kingdom's support for the Muscat statement and the recommendations and targets it contained that would enhance joint international action to confront antibiotic resistance.
He also announced that the 4th session of the conference in 2024 will be hosted in the Kingdom, which was welcomed by the participants in the conference, as it confirms the distinguished role of Saudi Arabia regionally and globally.
This hosting aims to support the various international efforts to confront this growing challenge and to build on what has been achieved in terms of agreements and pledges, the latest of which was the Muscat Statement, which was endorsed by the participating countries in the 3rd Ministerial Conference on Antimicrobial Resistance.
