Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen: Thwarting Second Hostile Attempt to Attack Abha Int. Airport with a Bomb-Laden Drone

Riyadh, August 31, 2021, SPA -- A Statement by the Official Spokesman of the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen Brigadier General Turki Al-Malki
“At (0906) Tuesday (31 August 2021), a second attempt to target traveling civilians and staff at Abha International Airport by the terrorist, Iran-backed Houthi militia using a bomb-laden drone was thwarted.”
As a result of the interception, some debris of the bomb-laden drone scattered around the premises of the airport, and injured (8) staff members of one the companies operating in the airport:
- Critical Condition:
(1) Bangladeshi expat
- Moderate Risk:
(2) Indian and (1) Bangladeshi expats
- Minor Condition:
(1) Saudi national, (1) Nepali, (1) Indian and (1) Bangladeshi expats
As well as damages to a type 320 commercial aircraft and ground support equipment, and shattered glass facades.
This hostile, atrocious attempt is the second one to target Abha International Airport and its multinational traveling civilians today in a deliberate, systematic manner. These acts confirm the hostile nature of the militia, and its transgressions against the customary International Humanitarian Law, under which Abha International Airport is considered a Civilian Object protected by the IHL.
The Joint Forces Command in the face of these hostile acts and immoral transgressions by the terrorist, Iran-backed Houthi militia will continue to implement all necessary operational procedures to neutralize the sources of threats under self-defense and imminent-threat conditions in a manner that protects civilians and civilian objects in accordance to the customary International Humanitarian Law.”
